Entitlement: Killer Of Desire
We’re living in an era where a little goes a long way.
It’s not uncommon to see people of lower and middle-class economic standings adopt bourgeois tastes and behavior, believing it makes them “different” or “special.”
I’m sure you’ve witnessed faux entitlement in action and have probably bought into some of these fallacies yourself. (Don’t sweat it too tough. Insecurity always seeks attachment.)
However, the irony remains. The pseudo-elite believe themselves “free,” while actually embracing hardcore conformist doctrine.
For example, take stereotypes such as vegetarians are morally superior to meat-eaters, yoga makes you “aware” and poor black people are more spiritual than non-members of this group. Yet, contrary to the popularity of these beliefs, none of them are necessarily true, let alone “universal.”
These are neat categories created for economic and social regulation. Not quantifiable facts. Still, if you figure out how to thrive contrary to popular design, you’re given labels such as contrarian or rebel, which certainly aren’t definitive.
Entitlement is an escape from responsibility.
By latching on to popular doctrine, formed in the trenches of divide-and-conquer politics, the gullible think they’re doing something great when actually the results are quite mundane.
Ultimately, conformists stop growing and never realize their true potential, as achieved through intense personal scrutiny and battle-tested principles.
Further, the real problem with entitlement is an inherent contradiction. Why do you need to embrace certain ideas or join a group to be free? Because the very act of doing so means you’re not.
True power is finding your own path and living in accordance with your values. You don’t need to be affirmed by an individual or group.
The trap of chasing enlightenment, and embracing “self-help” trends, is a bottomless pit. You’ll never find the satisfaction you’re craving.
Life is about self-discovery. They’re no ancient secrets or new age wonders that will magically transform your reality.
Create the life you want.
That’s all the truth you need.
Later,
Gary
