The Test

If you know this story, cool. If not, pay attention.

Krissy and her Mother are in the living room preparing to leave.
“Mom, did you make a list?”
“Yes.” She said, handing her daughter a slip of paper. “How’s it look?”
Krissy mumbles to herself while looking over the items. “I don’t see champagne?”
“It must be on there.”
“No, and there’s no party without it.”
“Of course, not.” They both acknowledged. “Where’s Lisa?”
“Upstairs.”
A car horn blows. “That man’s so annoying.”
“You know dad’s impatient.”
“Just for once, I wish he weren’t. Isn’t Marvin coming?”
“I told him, but Dad’s waiting. He can meet us there.”
A car pulls away. The house is silent, then a doorbell chimes. Footsteps descend the stairs, and a young woman opens the door. “Hey Marvin,” she says, wearing only a robe. “You just missed them.”
“Krissy told me ten.” He looked at his watch. “It’s just five after.”
“You know Dad, always in a hurry. He likes getting to the store early and beat the crowds.”
“True.”
“Are you nervous?”
“I guess, but I’m ready.”
“You guess?”
“I’m… ready.”
“Okay, be sure. You better not break my sister’s heart.”
“Never.”

They sit on the sofa. “It’s a big step, marriage. When Reggie asked me, I thought I was ready too. But…”
“What?”
“It just wasn’t right.”
“I don’t mean to…”
“It’s not all that. I just didn’t want to let go of some things.”
“Like what? Maybe you weren’t in love.”
“I was, at least I thought so. It’s difficult. There’s a lot to give up.”
“Yeah, but you get a lot, too.”
“I suppose.”
“You’ll have someone that’s loyal to you, and who’ll be there.”
“That’s just it. I couldn’t stand the fact that I’d be with only one man. Don’t tell me you haven’t thought about it?”
“Other women? I’m human, but it ain’t worth it. I’ve got a good thing that I don’t wanna lose.”
When she relaxes into the sofa pillows, her robe falls open. He gets a good look at her shapely body, red panties, and matching bra before she tightens the belt.
All kinds of crazy ideas run through his mind. But he checks himself. After all, this is his sister-in-law to be.
“Don’t you wanna know?” She asks.
“Huh?”
“Your last chance forever.”
“I don’t…”
She kisses him. “Just this once, no one will ever know.” She puts his hand between her legs. “It’s our secret.”
“Wait,” he said, his head spinning. “But you’re…”
“Don’t worry. We’re sisters and have shared men before,” she said, hugging him.
Despite her insistence; He broke free from her grip, bolting from the house.
Parked in the driveway, he fumbled in his car’s glove compartment, feeling the box of Trojans just as a horn blew behind him. He looked in the rear-view mirror while closing the compartment, leaving its contents inside.
He then saw everyone, their smiling faces: father, mother, and Krissy. When he got out, Mr. Smith shook his hand as Krissy kissed him.
“Well, you passed,” Mr. Smith said.
“Passed?” He asked, confused.
Krissy clarified. “That’s right, you were leaving and didn’t fall for it, and cheat on me.”
“No, I didn’t…” His voice trailed off as he saw Lisa smiling in the doorway.

END
(Note: The chump in this story got off easy. But circumstances don’t move a grown man. He controls his urges, and can’t be swayed by emotions. His mental frame is unshakeable. Don’t forget, when you’re out of control, you’re vulnerable.)
